Arielle Xena Alterwaite is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studies slavery and freedom in the Atlantic world. She is currently working on a dissertation on the 1825 Haitian Indemnity debt, focusing on its international significance for imperialism, abolition, and finance.
